Voted in the top 10 percent of magicians worldwide at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
In the 90s the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood held auditions for 42 members that desired to work in one of the three show rooms. The criteria was simple, at least 75 percent of the people in the audience (magicians and the paying public) must vote yes for the performer to be added to the "List" of acceptable performers. Each Tuesday a different act was inserted into the regular show.

Arnold Brema hosted these auditions. He read from a script before introducing the acts. "Ladies and gentleman, our next act would like very much to work at the Magic Castle. As you know, the Magic Castle only hires the best magicians in the world so we would like you to vote on this next act based on the following criteria. If you think this next act is in the top ten percent of the magicians, in the world vote yes, otherwise vote no. The other thing I want you to consider is that the Magic Castle needs to make money in order for us to keep the doors open. So If you think this act is so good that you would like to see it again, and the only way you can see it is if you bring guests and everyone buys dinner to support the Castle, vote yes. If you would not bring guests and buy dinner in order to see this next act, vote no. So there are the two criterias, you think this act is in the top ten percent in the world and you would pay to see them again, and bring friends, vote yes otherwise vote no."

What was the outcome? 40 out of 42 didn't get a score above 20 percent, one of 42 performers got a score of 78 percent, enough to be on the list. The highest score of all was for Jay Leslie. He earned a whopping 92 percent of the audience voting, that he was in the top 10 percent of magicians worldwide.

Immediately after the performance a Mr. P. Pitt (board of directors) came backstage and applauded Jay Leslie saying that he was very impressed and if he was still booking the shows he would give Jay a date right away. In the lobby a Mrs. I. Larson (President) said "I have never been so excited in years watching someone on the stage." Including a Mr. P. Metuska, many people shook Jay's hand and said it was fantastic!
